The macroeconomic situation, interest rate levels, inflation and conflicts in Europe’s neighbouring regions have impacted the French housing market over the past year.
The number of homes sold in France has decreased by 17% this year (1). By the end of the year, it is expected that the number of homes sold in France will have decreased by 21% compared to last year, resulting in a total of 885,000 homes sold in 2023.
In general, the situation in France is serious. The two real estate organisations – FNAIM and SNPI, are calling for more measures from the government to alleviate the housing situation for the average French person. This includes facilitating the purchase of their own homes, supporting new construction, and aiding long-term rentals to address the significant housing shortage.
However, there is a difference in development across France, and it is significantly better in the regions of Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur, and especially in Nice/Alpes-Maritimes, compared to other areas in France.
